Chart Controls
GPXFIT provides interactive route and elevation charts that let you explore your track in detail. Both the main page and tool modals include these features.
Route Preview
The route preview shows your track as a path, with start (green) and end (red) markers.
Map Toggle
Click the map icon to switch between:
- Canvas mode: A simple, fast drawing of your route path
- Map mode: An interactive Leaflet map with OpenStreetMap tiles
In map mode, you can:
- Drag to pan around the map
- Use mouse wheel to zoom
- See your route overlaid on real terrain
Waypoint Toggle
If your GPX file contains waypoints, a location icon button appears. Click it to:
- Show/hide waypoint markers on the route preview
- Waypoints appear as indigo pin markers
- In map mode, hover over markers to see waypoint names
Note: This button is only visible when your file contains waypoints. FIT files typically don't include waypoints.
Elevation Chart
The elevation chart shows altitude over distance, with the same start/end colouring as the route preview.
Zoom Controls
Use the zoom buttons in the top-right corner of the chart:
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| + | Zoom in (show less of the route in more detail) |
| - | Zoom out (show more of the route) |
Pan and Select Modes
Two interaction modes are available via the toggle buttons:
| Button | Mode | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Pan | Drag left/right to move through the zoomed data | |
| Select | Drag to select a range and zoom to it |
Select mode: Click and drag to draw a selection box. When you release, the chart zooms to show only that range. Useful for quickly focusing on a specific section.
Reset Zoom
When zoomed in, a Reset Zoom button appears. Click it to return to viewing the full route.
Waypoints on Elevation Chart
When waypoints are enabled, they appear on the elevation chart as:
- Vertical dashed lines from the data point to the top of the chart
- Small indigo markers at the elevation point
- Pin icons at the top of each line
This helps you correlate waypoints with their position along the route's elevation profile.
Synchronized Charts
On the main page, all four charts stay in sync:
- Original route and Original elevation
- Modified route and Modified elevation
When you zoom or pan on any chart, all others follow. The pan/select mode setting also syncs across all charts.
In tool modals, the route preview and elevation chart stay in sync with each other.
Tips
- Use the map toggle to verify your route on real terrain
- Zoom in on elevation spikes to identify GPS glitches
- Use select mode to quickly focus on climbs or descents
- Waypoint markers help correlate points of interest with elevation changes
- The reset zoom button returns all synced charts to full view at once
