Edit Waypoints

The Edit Waypoints tool lets you view, rename, and selectively delete waypoints in your GPX file. Unlike the Remove Waypoints tool which deletes all waypoints at once, this tool gives you fine-grained control over individual waypoints.

Overview

When opened, the tool displays a table of all waypoints in your file with:

  • Name - Editable waypoint name
  • Coordinates - Latitude and longitude
  • Elevation - Altitude (if available)
  • Actions - Delete button for each waypoint

Editing Waypoint Names

Click on any waypoint name to edit it inline. Changes are applied when you click "Apply Changes."

Deleting Waypoints

Click the delete button next to any waypoint to mark it for removal. The waypoint will be visually struck through. You can undo the deletion before applying by clicking the restore button.

Map Preview

Hover over a waypoint row to highlight its location on the route preview map. This helps you identify which waypoint is which, especially when names are generic or missing.

When to Use

Cleaning Up Route Files

After recording an activity, you may want to:

  • Rename waypoints with more descriptive names
  • Remove accidental waypoint markers
  • Clean up auto-generated waypoint names

Preparing Course Files

When creating a navigation course from a recorded activity:

  • Rename waypoints to useful turn-by-turn descriptions
  • Remove unnecessary markers that clutter the display

Sharing Routes

Before sharing routes with others:

  • Add descriptive names to key locations
  • Remove personal waypoints (home, work)

Notes

  • This tool modifies waypoint data only; track points are not affected
  • Changes are not saved until you click "Apply Changes"
  • You can undo applied changes using the undo feature
  • If you want to remove all waypoints at once, use the Remove Waypoints tool instead
