Heart Rate Analysis

The Heart Rate Analysis tool provides a detailed breakdown of your heart rate data, including an HR curve showing your best average heart rate over various durations, and customizable best-effort intervals.

Overview

This analysis-only tool displays:

  • HR Curve - Best average heart rate achievable for each duration (logarithmic chart)
  • Best Efforts - Your highest average HR for specific time intervals
  • Summary Statistics - Max recorded HR, average HR, and LTHR/Max HR percentages

Settings

LTHR (Lactate Threshold Heart Rate)

Enter your lactate threshold heart rate to see effort percentages relative to threshold. This value is saved in your browser for future use.

Max HR

Enter your maximum heart rate to enable the "% Max" display mode. When set, you can toggle between viewing heart rate in BPM or as a percentage of your maximum.

HR Curve

The HR curve chart shows your best average heart rate for durations ranging from 1 second to the full ride length. The X-axis uses a logarithmic scale for better visibility across short and long durations.

1-10 seconds Every second
10-60 seconds Key intervals (12s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 45s, 60s)
1-10 minutes Every 30 seconds
10-60 minutes Every minute
1-4 hours Every 5 minutes

LTHR Reference Line

When LTHR is set, a dashed orange line appears on the chart showing your threshold heart rate for easy reference.

Best Efforts

The best efforts section shows your highest average heart rate for user-selected durations.

Default Durations

  • 5 seconds
  • 1 minute
  • 5 minutes
  • 20 minutes

Custom Durations

Click "Edit Durations" to customize the intervals. Enter comma-separated values using formats like:

  • 5s - 5 seconds
  • 30s - 30 seconds
  • 1m - 1 minute
  • 5m - 5 minutes
  • 20m - 20 minutes
  • 1h - 1 hour
  • 1h30m - 1 hour 30 minutes

Custom durations are saved in your browser for future use.

Display Modes

Toggle between two display modes using the BPM / % Max buttons:

  • BPM - Absolute heart rate values
  • % Max - Percentage of maximum heart rate (requires Max HR to be set)

Summary Statistics

Metric Description
Max Recorded Highest heart rate recorded during the activity
Avg HR Average heart rate across the entire activity
Avg % LTHR Average heart rate as percentage of LTHR (when set)

Tips

  • The 20-minute best effort is commonly used as a proxy for LTHR
  • Compare your HR curve across rides to track fitness changes
  • A flatter HR curve suggests good aerobic conditioning
  • Sharp drop-offs in the curve indicate duration limits for high-intensity effort
