Power Analysis

The Power Analysis tool provides a detailed breakdown of your power meter data, including a power curve showing your best average power over various durations, customizable best-effort intervals, and optional W/kg display.

Overview

This analysis-only tool displays:

  • Power Curve - Best average power achievable for each duration (logarithmic chart)
  • Best Efforts - Your highest average power for specific time intervals
  • Summary Statistics - Max power, average power, and FTP percentages

Settings

FTP (Functional Threshold Power)

Enter your FTP to see effort percentages relative to threshold. This value is saved in your browser for future use. FTP is typically your best average power for a 1-hour effort (or 95% of your 20-minute best).

Weight

Enter your body weight in kilograms to enable the "W/kg" display mode. When set, you can toggle between viewing power in watts or watts per kilogram.

Power Curve

The power curve chart shows your best average power for durations ranging from 1 second to the full ride length. The X-axis uses a logarithmic scale for better visibility across short and long durations.

Duration Range Detail Level
1-10 seconds Every second
10-60 seconds Key intervals (12s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 45s, 60s)
1-10 minutes Every 30 seconds
10-60 minutes Every minute
1-4 hours Every 5 minutes

FTP Reference Line

When FTP is set, a dashed orange line appears on the chart showing your threshold power for easy reference.

Best Efforts

The best efforts section shows your highest average power for user-selected durations.

Default Durations

  • 5 seconds
  • 1 minute
  • 5 minutes
  • 20 minutes

Custom Durations

Click "Edit Durations" to customize the intervals. Enter comma-separated values using formats like:

  • 5s, 30s, 1m, 5m, 20m, 1h, 1h30m

Custom durations are saved in your browser for future use.

Display Modes

Toggle between two display modes:

  • Watts - Absolute power values
  • W/kg - Watts per kilogram (requires weight to be set)

Summary Statistics

Metric Description
Max Power Highest power recorded during the activity
Avg Power Average power across the entire activity
Avg % FTP Average power as percentage of FTP (when set)

Color Coding

Best effort bars are color-coded by intensity relative to FTP or estimated max:

Color Intensity
Red > 95% of max (sprint/VO2max)
Orange 85-95% (threshold)
Yellow 75-85% (tempo)
Green < 75% (endurance)

Tips

  • The 20-minute best effort multiplied by 0.95 is a common FTP estimate
  • Compare power curves across rides to track fitness gains
  • 5-second power indicates neuromuscular capacity
  • 1-minute power reflects anaerobic capacity
  • 5-minute power approximates VO2max power
  • 20-minute power approximates FTP
