Remove Elements

The Remove Elements tool lets you selectively strip specific data channels from your GPX or FIT file while keeping everything else intact. This is useful for reducing file size, removing unwanted sensor data, or preparing files for specific purposes.

Overview

The tool detects which data elements are present in your file and lets you choose which ones to remove:

Element Description
Elevation Altitude data on each track point
Timestamps Time data on each track point
Heart Rate Heart rate monitor data
Cadence Pedaling/running cadence data
Power Power meter data
Temperature Temperature sensor data
Speed Speed sensor data
Only elements that exist in your file are shown.

Quick Actions

  • Select All - Check all detected elements for removal
  • Select None - Uncheck all elements

Before applying, a summary shows which elements will be removed.

When to Use

Reducing File Size

FIT files with many sensor channels can be large. Remove channels you don't need to reduce file size for sharing or uploading.

Privacy

Remove biometric data (heart rate, power) before sharing route files publicly, while keeping the GPS track and elevation intact.

Platform Compatibility

Some platforms or devices may not handle certain data channels well. Remove problematic channels to improve compatibility.

Creating Route-Only Files

Strip all sensor data to create a clean route file with just GPS coordinates and optionally elevation, suitable for navigation.

What Is NOT Removed

The Remove Elements tool does NOT remove:

  • GPS coordinates - Latitude and longitude (these define the route)
  • Waypoints - Use the Remove Waypoints tool for that
  • File metadata - Use the Privacy Scrub tool for device and personal info

Notes

  • Removal is non-destructive - your original file is not modified
  • Each element is removed from all track points in the file
  • The tool shows how many track points contain each element
  • Changes can be undone using the undo feature before downloading
  • For removing timestamps specifically, you can also use the dedicated Remove Timestamps tool
