Remove Still Time
The Remove Still Time tool detects and removes portions of your track where you were stationary (traffic lights, rest stops, cafe breaks, etc.).
When to Use
This tool is useful when:
- You want to remove time spent at stops from your total time
- Your track includes long pauses that skew your average speed
- You want a cleaner recording without idle periods
- You're preparing a track for analysis of moving time only
How to Use
- Upload your GPX or FIT file (must include timestamps)
- Click the Remove Still Time button to open the tool
- Adjust the detection settings if needed:
- Click Analyse Track to detect stops
- Review the detected stops in the table
- Select which stops to remove (checkboxes)
- Click Apply to remove selected stops
Detection Settings
Speed Threshold (0.1 - 2.0 km/h)
Determines what speed counts as "stopped". The default of 0.5 km/h works well for most cases:
- Lower values (0.1-0.3): Only detect complete stops
- Default (0.5): Good balance for walking/cycling
- Higher values (1.0+): Include very slow movement as stopped
Minimum Duration (10 - 300 seconds)
Only stops lasting longer than this will be detected:
- 10-30 seconds: Catch traffic lights and brief pauses
- 30-60 seconds: Default, good for most stops
- 60+ seconds: Only longer breaks like cafe stops
What Happens When You Remove Stops
When stops are removed:
- Points are removed: The track points during the stop are deleted (keeping one connection point)
- Timestamps are shifted: All subsequent timestamps are adjusted to close the gap
- Total time decreases: Your moving time becomes the new total time
For example, if you remove a 10-minute stop:
- All points after the stop shift 10 minutes earlier
- Your total track time decreases by 10 minutes
- Distance remains unchanged
The Stops Table
After analysis, the table shows:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Checkbox | Select stops for removal |
| Stop # | Stop number in sequence |
| Duration | How long you were stopped |
| Time | When the stop occurred |
| View | Highlight stop on the route |
Tips
- Analyse first - Always review detected stops before removing
- Use the View button - Check each stop on the route preview
- Be selective - You can choose which stops to remove
- Adjust thresholds - If stops aren't detected, try different settings
- Check the summary - See total stopped time before committing
Requirements
This tool requires timestamp data in your track. If your file doesn't have timestamps, the tool won't be able to detect stops.
Considerations
What's Affected
- Total track duration (reduced)
- Average speed (typically increases)
- Track point count (reduced)
- Timestamp values (shifted)
What's Preserved
- Route path and distance
- Elevation data
- Sensor data (for kept points)
- Overall track structure
