Reverse Route
The Reverse Route tool flips the direction of your track, making the end point the start and vice versa.
When to Use
This tool is useful when:
- You recorded a route but want to navigate it in the opposite direction
- You want to plan a return journey along the same path
- You downloaded a route that goes the "wrong way" for your needs
How to Use
- Upload your GPX file
- Click the Reverse Route button in the Tools section
- The route will be instantly reversed
- Preview the reversed route in the Output pane
- Download the modified GPX file
What Happens
When you reverse a route:
- Track points: The order of all track points is reversed
- Timestamps: If present, timestamps are recalculated to maintain logical progression
- Elevation: Elevation data is preserved but now appears in reverse order
- Start/End: What was the finish becomes the start
The reverse operation is applied to the modified preview. You can see the original route on the left and the reversed route on the right.
Example
| Original Route | Reversed Route |
|---|---|
| A → B → C → D | D → C → B → A |
| Start at home, end at park | Start at park, end at home |
Tips
- After reversing, check the elevation profile - climbs will now appear as descents and vice versa
- The total distance remains the same
- You can undo the reverse by applying it again
